At the start of the season both Mick and me were very positive
about the lad’s prospects for up-coming season.
A good pre-season was the key to a tough start that we had. With
the clubs leading goal scorer Josh Dobson in a rich vain of form
our attacking players were in no mood to take any prisoners.
During the close season we brought in Greasbrough Youth's answer
to Wayne Rooney in a young lad called Joe Tidy, a naturally gifted
footballer he has added a quality to what I would say was the best
side in our division in going forward. During the pre-season we also
changed our style of play that allows Joseph Walsh to have more
freedom, and what a revelation he has been. We set him a ten goal
target from midfield and he will easily surpass that. In that change
of style we dropped Thomas Rigsby to a midfield role with Josh Hopkins
and 'the Greasbrough Youth heartbeat' that is George Hobson.
During pre-season we had set backs with two players moving on to
pastures new but I have to say we are a better side for that little
bit of a shake up in squad members, along with the news Danny Gunson
badly broke his arm while out on his bike, Danny is a player that
when he plays he leaves you guessing as to what he will do.
I'm the first to admit that our defence needed to improve from last
season, step forward Ryan Smith a giant of a centre half - he as put
in some solid displays. Along with all the changes we decided to
move Carl Draycott to partner Ryan or Luke Binney. These three lads
are doing superb job this season so far. Adding to the compliments
on the improving defence we have Jack Heenan, Lance Reddick, and
Jack Pearce. Myself and Mick decided to allow the wing-backs to get
further forward. Jack Heenans quality, Lance Reddicks natural football
ability as well as Jack Pearce's excellent reading of the game as allowed
us to commit more bodies forward, so well done defence you are the reason
we are where we are.
Just a few weeks ago we added Macauley Willmott to the ranks and his
never say die spirit and hunger to learn has been pleasing to the eye.
Finally I come to the league best goal keeper in Adam 'the cat' Hague,
he as been more vocal and now enjoys dominating his box, while his
agility makes him a great shot stopper.
Mick and myself are really pleased with your effort and commitment
you are all a pleasure to work with we are halfway there lads.
Well done lads and keep up the good work.
John and Mick
